Architrave Moulding

Architrave

Architrave mouldings bridge the gap between door frames or window frames and walls. They generally come in a variety of styles, ranging from very plain and simple mouldings in the majority of common applications to large and complicated decorative stylings in the likes of stately homes.

Cornice Moulding

Cornice

Cornice or crown mouldings provide a smooth transition from the wall to the ceiling. Again they come in a wide variety of styles, ranging from very plain and simple mouldings in the majority of common applications to large and complicated decorative stylings in the likes of stately homes.

Dado Moulding

Dado

Originally Dado rails were installed in rooms to protect the walls from furniture that was traditionally arranged around the outside of the room facing in. Gradually as tastes and traditions changed, they were less commonly used in most rooms and were confined to staircases and hallways. They are still seen in some properties, most often period properties and are most often seen splitting two areas of wall, for instance painted and papered areas.

Skirting

Skirting

The skirting board has a very practical function, it covers the gap where the plaster of the wall meets the floor. It also protects the plaster from knocks and provides a framework for wall decoration such as wall paper to sit within. Skirting styles vary greatly, from plain and simple flat boards to elaborate stylings.

Picture Rail

Picture Rail

The picture rail serves both decorative and practical functions. It separates the upper wall or frieze from the main part of the wall and can also be used to hang pictures from as its name implies. Picture rails are usually quite plain and simple, however more complex designs may be sometimes seen.
